Privacy Policy

Biology Lab (thebiologylab.org) is free to use and never asks you to sign up. This page explains, in plain language, what information is collected when you visit, who collects it, and how you can opt out.

No accounts, no forms

There are no accounts, logins, or sign-up forms, so we never ask for your name or email address. Everything you type into a calculator, including any DNA sequence, is processed on your own device and is not sent to our servers.

Usage statistics (Google Analytics)

We use Google Analytics (G-90EH9Q7K6T) to count visits and see which pages and tools are used, so we know what to improve. Google Analytics uses cookies and similar technology to collect information such as the pages you view, how long you stay, the referring site, your approximate location, and your device and browser type. Calculator inputs and practice answers are not sent to Google Analytics. Read how Google uses information from sites that use its services.

Advertising (Adsterra)

A small number of banner ads help keep the lab free. They are served by Adsterra and load only when you scroll near them. There are no pop-ups, pop-unders, or full-screen ads, and ads never appear inside a calculator. Students who arrive from Google Classroom, Canvas, or Schoology, or through a Share to Google Classroom link on this site, see no ads at all on that device for 30 days. The teacher page and answer keys never show ads.

To show ads, limit how often you see the same one, measure results, and prevent fraud, Adsterra and its advertising partners may use cookies, pixels, or similar identifiers. They may receive your IP address, browser and device details, and the address of the page you are viewing. Their use of this information is covered by Adsterra’s Privacy Policy and Cookies Policy.

Cookie choices

Visitors in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland see a small cookie banner. Until you choose, Google Analytics runs without cookies and no ads load. Accept allows analytics and advertising cookies; Reject keeps analytics cookie-free and shows no ads. Your choice is stored in your browser for 180 days (under the key cookieConsent), and you can change it at any time with Cookie settings in the footer. Students who arrive from a school platform stay ad-free whatever they choose.

Saved in your browser

Your best practice scores are saved in your browser’s local storage so you can see your progress next time. They never leave your device, and clearing your browser data removes them. Local storage also keeps your cookie choice (cookieConsent, for 180 days) if you make one, and, if you arrive from a school platform or a Share to Google Classroom link, an “ad-free until” date for 30 days. It holds nothing else.

Other services

Fonts load from Google Fonts, and our hosting provider keeps standard access logs (such as IP address and requested page) to deliver the site and protect it from abuse.

Students

Biology Lab is made for students and does not ask anyone for personal information. Classroom activities are completed on paper or in a teacher’s own assignment, so student work is never sent to this site. The Share to Google Classroom buttons are plain links: nothing loads from Google until someone clicks one, and Google’s own terms then apply. Parents and teachers with questions are welcome to contact us; the teacher page explains how the site works in class.
